IAF's heroic rescue-op from the Tawi river breach in Jammu: Here's what the heroic crew had to say

The Indian Air Force on Monday performed a heroic set of rescue operations in Jammu to save people who had been stranded following the Tawi river breaching its level markers. Talking to Republic TV, the rescue crew narrated the events that unfolded during the rescue operation.

The Indian Air Force on Monday performed a heroic set of rescue operations in Jammu to save people who had been stranded following the Tawi river breaching its level markers. Talking to Republic TV, the rescue crew narrated the events that unfolded during the rescue operation.

Hero Gopal Pahar Singh, one of the crewman, said that the rescue mission had been ordered on a very short notice. 

"We were called on a very short notice, that is the only issue we faced. But our chopper was fueled and we had the equpment and the gear," he said.

He later added that on reaching the spot, they witnessed two men stranded and made rescuing him their first priority. They constantly maintained that saving lives has always been the first priority. Another team-member involved in the rescue said that it was crucial to rescue them immediately:

"With the time that was passing, the water-level was also rising and the flow was too strong."

When asked about the concern for their own safety, the rescue crewman said that they were confident about being safe as the pilots could be trusted:

"We were confident that we will be safe. We trust our pilots and have no doubt about our equipment. The only concern was for the ones who were stranded." 

They also asserted that people can rest assured that they will be safe, no matter what adding that crews are available for rescue ops for 24 hours. Later, Singh added that they consider themselves lucky enough to carry out rescue operations like this as happiness is brought by events like these. The operation in-charge while talking to Republic TV said that:

"This was not a planned rescue operation. As soon as the call came in, we were ready to leave in a span of two to three minutes. There was ground coordination too. The helicopter was hovering too close to the ground which was a risk." he said

The officer concluded by saying that lot of factors were involved in the rescue and that the IAF is trying to level up with the expectations. The incredible death-defying rescue brings into sharp relief the continuous efforts undertaken by the security forces to ensure the safety and well being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
