IAS officer Vijay Kumar Dev has been appointed as the new Delhi Chief Secretary, succeeding Anshu Prakash.

The order of his appointment has been issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The text of the appointment letter reads:

"With the approval of the competent authority, it has been decided to appoint Shri Vijay Kumar Dev, IAS (AGMUT:1987) as Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi, with effect from the date of joining till further orders."

A copy of the letter has been sent to the office of the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal.

An 1987 batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories), Vijay Kumar Dev, in his most recent appointments, served as the Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India, Chandigarh, and as Additional Secretary to the Government of India.

His predecessor, Anshu Prakash, had allegedly been attacked by AAP legislators at a meeting held in Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence, in Kejriwal's presence, following which there was a long stand-off between the Chief Minister and the bureaucracy of the National Capital.
