IMD: Cyclonic circulation to cause heavy rains in Odisha from Oct 23

IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha from October 23 to October 25 under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for various places in south Odisha from October 23 to October 25 under the influence of cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal.

Heavy Rainfall due to the influence of cyclonic circulation

According to H R Biswas, the Director of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bhubaneswar, Odisha is likely to witness rainfall. "Today and tomorrow Odisha will experience spells of rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms," he said.

As per the weather report, Ganjam, Gajapati, Raigarh, Puri, Kandhamal, Nuapara, and Balangir districts of south Odisha will witness heavy rainfall.

"On October 24 and 25, the amount of rain will increase and also cover north Odisha along with the southern districts of the state," said Biswas.

"Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city will have the cloudy sky on these days," added Biswas. Meanwhile, IMD has issued no warning for the fishermen of Odisha.

Orange Alert in parts of Kerala 

Orange alert was issued by authorities for Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Idukki, Wayanad Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on October 20. According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur till Tuesday.

“The low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian sea is likely to become a well-marked low during the next 36 hours," the IMD bulletin issued on October 20 said.

Orange Alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad as heavy rainfall is expected on Monday. Districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Kozhikode have been issued a yellow alert for Monday.

Monsoon Withdrawal from Odisha 

Earlier on October 16, IMD had said that the Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from entire north Bay of Bengal, some parts of central Bay of Bengal, entire Odisha, Chhattisgarh, some parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of Telangana, entire Vidarbha, Marathawada, some parts of North Interior Karnataka, most parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some more parts of Konkan, entire north Arabian Sea and some parts of central Arabian Sea.
