Days after Republic sting on former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh, who gave details in Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar's role in the Saradha scam, the CBI has summoned him for further examination to Shillong.
The former TMC MP, who was interrogated for his alleged involvement in the scam, has revealed how Mamata Banerjee has cluttered the matter bringing back the question on Kolkata police's role. Formal Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh, who is now suspended, had headed Saradha's media division.
In the sting, Ghosh had claimed that Kumar had destroyed and distorted evidence in the Saradha scam. He also said that Rajeev Kumar had a full role in suppressing the evidence. He had alleged that the TMC had usurped Sudipto Sen, the Chairman and MD of Saradha Group's property after he went underground.
There was a huge stand-off on February 3 between the CBI who had come to Kolkata to question Kumar in the Saradha scam and the Kolkata police.
CBI team that had come to question Kolkata CP Rajeev Kumar in relation to the Saradha chit fund scam had been obstructed and then detained by the Kolkata police. Banerjee had arrived there shortly after and had begun a dharna that lasted 2 days.
A day later, Rajeev Kumar was handed a slap on the wrists by the Supreme Court based on a CBI plea, with a three-judge bench directing him to appear before the CBI in Shillong - a neutral location, and also issued contempt of court notices against the West Bengal Chief Secretary, the West Bengal DGP and one more officer .
