A pall of gloom descended at the house of Army man Mukhtar Ahmed Wani who was killed on Monday after 3 gunmen barged into his house in Shurath, Kulgam, and shot him dead.

As per reports, Wani had come to his home to observe Fateha Khawani of his 16-year-old son who died a few days back in a road accident.

Wani, earlier Ikhwani (then a member of the counter-insurgency force), was serving in the 162 Territorial Army of Shurath in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

Soon after the incident, security forces launched a manhunt in Shurath and other adjoining villages to nab the attackers.

Wani's killing comes just 2 days after security forces neutralised 5 militants of both Hizbul Mujahideen and the LeT in Kulgam on Saturday. Also, one local youth lost his life and many civilians got injured during clashes with security forces in Kulgam.

This is not the first time when gunmen killed people from security forces.

On July 30, unidentified militants barged inside the house of a local CRPF constable Naseer Ahmad Rather in the Naira area of Pulwama in south Kashmir and fired upon him.

Naseer was rushed to district hospital Pulwama where he succumbed to injuries.

On July 21, Constable Mohammad Saleem Shah, who was on leave, was abducted and killed by the militants from his residence in the Mutalhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir.

J&K Policeman Javaid Dar was abducted by militants from Shopian district and his body was found in Kulgam on July 6.

Before that, on June 14, Indian Army soldier Aurangzeb, who lived in  Poonch district of Jammu, was abducted by militants in Pulwama’s south Kashmir in broad daylight from a civilian vehicle while he was going to his hometown on leave to celebrate Eid with his family. His bullet-ridden body was found at Gusoo in Pulwama late that evening.

Meanwhile, normal life was affected in the valley due to a shutdown called by the Hurriyat Leadership against the recent civilian and militant killings in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
