PM Narendra Modi on Sunday urged nations across the world to join the Yoga Day programmes on June 21. Posting pictures of people doing yoga from across the world, he said that the celebrations of the event have already begun.
"Across all continents, the #YogaDay2019 celebrations have begun with immense fervour. I urge you all to join the Yoga Day programmes in your respective nations and enrich the Yoga programmes with your participation," he said.
The push for yoga was first brought about by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he addressed the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, where he expressed his hope to mark 21st June as the international yoga day.
The Prime Minister's push towards yoga and the awareness towards the benefits of yoga has been a personal project
In 2015, India created two world records on International Yoga Day when PM Modi led the participants at Rajpath in Delhi and recorded the largest yoga class with 35,985 people. He also participated in a Yoga session in Argentina at last year's G20.
