Two CRFP jawans, a number which became three on Wednesday, attained martyrdom and one journalist also lost his life after Maoists targeted security forces in the jungles of the Neelavaya Village in Dantewada's Aranpur district in Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday morning.
Amongst the number of others injured was the colleague of now deceased DD journalist. Mor Mukut, one of the members of the DD team which was present when Maoists attacked, has narrated the shocking incident just a day after it took place.
In a video which he took when the firing was going on, Mukut predicted it may well be his final message due to the ongoing attack, and hence meekly expressed his love for his mother. He said:
"Terror attack has happened (10 gunshots heard in background). We are in Dantewada for election coverage. We were passing through this area (more gunshots heard in background). Army...(gunshots heard in background). Army...(continuous firing). Army was with us. Suddenly they surrounded us. Maoists (sporadic gunfire). Mummy if I escape alive...(3 rounds of gunfire). It will be my luck. Mummy, I love you a lot (continuous firing). I may be killed in this attack. The situation is not right (continuous gunshots). I don't know why but seeing death before me, I don't feel scared. It is difficult to survive here (jawans heard screaming). There are 6-7 jawans with us. They (maoists) have surrounded us from all sides. Even then I will say this..."
A DD news video journalist, along with two CRPF jawans were killed after Maoists ambushed a police patrolling in Chhattisgath on Tuesday. The fierce encounter between the Maoists and the security personnel took place 30 km away from the district administrative office in which two soldiers also suffered injuries, and were shifted to a nearby hospital. But on Wednesday morning, one of the jawan attained martyrdom after succumbing to his injuries.
This incident took place three days after four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans attained martyrdom following an encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Saturday. According to media reports, two jawans were also injured. It was reported that the Maoists blew up an anti-landmine vehicle in the poll-bound state, injuring several.
