Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 73rd Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a strong message for the farmers of the country.
He said: "I want to request the farmers today, this land is our mother. But have we really thought about our motherland's health? The way we are using chemical fertilizers, pesticides... we are ruining our land. As a farmer, I don't have the right to ruin or hurt our motherland. Can we 10%, 20% or 25% reduce the use of chemical fertilizers or if possible do-away with it completely? It will be a great service to our country. We have to save our land. And I have faith in our people that our farmers will listen to me and do the needful."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of India's 73rd Independence Day also drew attention to going plastic-free. He said, "Can we free India from single use plastic? The time for implementing such an idea has come. May teams be mobilised to work in this direction. Let a significant step be made on 2nd October."
PM Modi also spoke about the importance of the tourism industry in India and how it can be accentuated. "Price rise in India is now under control. We need to promote tourism in India. We must empower the economy through our efforts", he said.
"We need to respect wealth creators in India because if wealth is not created, how will it be distributed? And if it is not distributed how will it benefit the poor in the country?", he further added
