Independence Day: ITBP personnel hoist the Tricolour high - 18,000 feet high - in Sikkim

The armed forces in the heights of Sikkim celebrated India's 73rd Independence Day with particular zeal on Thursday, with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) troops hoisting the Tricolour high - really high.

The armed forces in the heights of Sikkim celebrated India's 73rd Independence Day with particular zeal on Thursday, with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) troops hoisting the Tricolour high - really high.

In Sikkim's OP Dorzila, the ITBP forces hoisted the Tricolour at an eyewatering 18,800 feet above sea level. The flag hoisting was followed by the national anthem, with the visuals accessed by Republic TV showing the ITBP personnel standing proudly with their rifles. The flag was hoisted against the back-drop of specialised cylindrical bunkers in the North Eastern Himalayas.

Likewise, ITBP troops based in other parts of the country too celebrated Independence Day:

Constable Arjun Kheriyal gave a tribute to the nation by singing the famous 'Maa Tujhe Salaam' song:

Earlier on Wednesday, ahead of the 73rd Independence Day, Indo-Tibetan Border Police Jawan Lovely Singh dedicated a heartwarming song from the film 'Border' to the brave hearts of the ITBP. Singh recreated the much-celebrated song titled 'Sandese Aate Hai' which narrates the emotions of a soldier who guard out territories at the borders, risking their lives, living far away from his family and friends. Doordarshan aired the music video which captured the rigorous lifestyle of the armed forces.
