Independence Day: Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal wishes the nation, highlights this year's I-Day's significance

After making his voicing in the Jammu-Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2019's Lok Sabha debate, BJP Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, on Thursday wished the nation on India's 73rd Independence Day sharing a personal message talking about how Ladakh has finally got freedom with the abrogation of article 370. 

Independence Day celebrations

On the occasion of India's 73rd Independence Day on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort, Delhi from 7:30 am onwards. PM Modi will deliver his speech after hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort which will be accompanied shortly by a 21-cannon salute to pay respect to freedom fighters. Setting a new tradition this year, three women IAF officers will assist the Prime Minister in the unfurling of the national flag. 

Preparations for I-Day

Government buildings across the country were illuminated to mark the occasion of freedom from the British Raj. Meanwhile, Army officers were seen doing a rehearsal of the Beating retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah border on the eve of Independence Day (August 14).

Indian Independence movement

The British rule began in India in 1757 by the victory of English East India Company(EIC) at the Battle of Plassey and gained control over the country. The EIC controlled India for 100 years before being replaced by the British government in 1857-58 during India's first war for Independence or the 'Indian Mutiny'.

Finally after the all-India revolt through the non-violent,non-cooperation movement, Civil Disobedience movement led by Mahatma Gandhi - the British ended their rule post-winning World War-II.  British Government in early 1947 announced to transfer all powers to the Indians, which led to the partition of India into India and Pakistan after severe violence between Hindus and Muslims. 

On 15 August 1947 at midnight India got independence and was concluded by the Jawahar Lal Nehru speech "Tryst with destiny".
