The Union Territory of Ladakh celebrated its first-ever Independence Day after fully integrating with India following the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5. People across J&K and Ladakh were seen celebrating the occasion with traditional dances, large social gatherings, and flag hoisting functions at various places.
A large crowd gathered at Solo grounds in Leh to mark the Independence Day celebrations. BJP national secretary Ram Madhav, who had earlier been received at the airport with locals dancing to the traditional tunes, was at the function along with Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in Solo grounds where children from different schools gathered to perform on different themes ranging from patriotism to water conservation.
Visuals of children dancing to patriotic songs can be seen followed by which a group of students performed on the theme of water conservation in order to spread awareness about water shortage and conservation methods and benefits. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stressed on the immediate urgency to save and conserve water for the present and the future generations to survive and progress as he addressed the nation on the 73rd Independence Day. PM Modi laid a lot of emphasis on the need to conserve water, the necessity of water for progress and development and for sustainable development of the future generation.
A large crowd assembled at the Solo grounds as people came from all corners of Leh and Ladakh to celebrate the occasion like a festival. One of the attendants of the function said, "It is a good move by the government to integrate Ladakh along with J&K to the rest of India as the people of Ladakh will now get the funds directed towards them. Further, people are happily accepting the decision and are a part of the celebrations."
BJP Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal who became a household name in the country following his impassioned speech during the discussion on Jammu-Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha, had wished the nation on the occasion of Independence Day on Thursday. Now he has taken the internet by storm by his graceful dance moves celebrating I-Day in Leh.
As seen in the video, the lawmaker is seen leading the queue of dancers with fluid hand gestures and soft footwork.
The Lok Sabha's Member of Parliament had earlier led his people in celebrating the reorganisation of the Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He also took the opportunity to spread the message of conserving the environment by not using crackers to celebrate. In a tweet, he said, 'the residents believe firmly in the principal of environmental conservation. Following this norm, they have taken a pledge of no crackers even for the celebrations. This video shows how celebrations can happen in an eco-friendly environment.' The MP is seen dancing with the national flag in a circle with people, as others take photos and videos.
