Ahead of Independence Day, President Ram Nath Kovind spoke about various important issues concerning the country in his annual address. The President congratulated the country for the active participation in the successful completion of the Lok Saba elections. He also called for unified action, not just among the citizens, but also between voters-elected representatives, the political parties in the Parliament and assemblies, and also between the people and the government for India for the country to reach glorious heights.
In his address, President Ram Nath Kovind said, “During the summer, you all participated in the 17th general elections, the world’s biggest democratic event. All the voters deserve congratulations. You all reached the voting centres in big numbers. Not only did they use their right of vote, but also fulfilled the responsibility of the elections."
He continued, "With every election, the journey of India’s progress gets a new beginning. The citizens expressed their hopes and belief. This expression had started with the passion of freedom, the same feeling that people had experienced on August 15, 1947. Now, it is our responsibility that we stand shoulder-to-shoulder and work with the same passion to take our glorious country to new heights.”
The President also expressed his delight over the successful sessions of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha recently, “With co-operation of the political parties, several important decisions were taken; with such a beginning, I hope that the country continues to accomplish such feats in the next five years."
"I’d hope that the Assemblies too adapt this practice shown at the Parliament. It is important that the Parliament and the Assemblies show ideal working culture to make it a strong democracy, not just so that the elected representatives can stand true to the expectations of the voters, but also for the development of the country," President Kovind said.
He continued, "It is very important that every citizen and institution works with unity. We had achieved Independence with this feeling of unity only. The unity between the voters and the elected representatives and the citizens and the country, and the civil society and administeration is the ideal partnership with which the New India mission will be achieved.”
The President also said, “In this partnership, the government's task is to help the people and make them strong, that’s why we need the institutions and the policy-makers to pay attention to the messages they receive from the citizens and respect their thoughts and hopes."
