PM Modi gives anecdotes about water conservation

Invoking the writing of a Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, PM Modi quoted, "When water is depleted, the work of nature stalls". PM Modi said that he was surprised by the saint's important message that came many 100 years earlier and said that water crisis in the country had reached a point where that prediction came true.He said that when there is no water, then the work of the environment stops.

PM Modi pointed out to another anecdote to explain the importance of water conservation. He spoke about how people of the Jain faith in his birthplace (Gujurat), visit Mahuri, a town that was once inhabited by a saint 100 years ago. The saint, who was born to a farmer, had renounced his life in accordance to the Jain principles, had written that water will be sold in general stores in the near future.

"Today, we buy water from the stores, just like the saint predicted 100 years back. From where to where have we come so far? Thousand years ago no one would have imagined water shortage. We should not stop ourselves from acting now. We should follow water conservation, not just like a government policy, but like a people's movement, like how Swacch Bharat Abhiyan spread across the country, and the nation should progress on the interests of the people and their aspirations", said PM Modi.
