India to gift 75,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan: Envoy

India will gift 75,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan in the month of November as announced by Ambassador Vinay Kumar on October 16. The announcements were made during his speech at the 37th anniversary of the Afghan Red Crescent Society's Special Week. India shipped its first cargo of wheat through the Chabahar port in Iran which had to pass by the waters of Pakistan in the month of October 2017. The government of India supplied 1.1 million tones of grain for Afghanis as a grant. The Indian envoy then spoke about cooperation between India and ARCS which comprised of the financial aid that is being provided by the Indian government to treat children in Afghanistan from congenital heart disease. "During the last four years, around 2000 Afghan children in the age group of 4 months to 18 years have been treated with India's assistance of USD 4 million," he said.

The official account of the Embassy of India, Kabul posted a series of tweets informing the users about the initiative. The first tweet said that since 2015, more than 2000 children in Afghanistan who were of the age group between 4 months to 18 years were treated with the help of India's assistance of US$ 4 million. The Indian ambassador announced that India would be gifting Afghanistan the huge amount of wheat. In the second tweet, they wrote about the Indian envoy's address at the ARCS special week where he mentioned cooperation between India and the society for financial support to the children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease. The third tweet appreciated the work of ARCS and its volunteers in providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan which is deeply affected by conflict and natural disasters. The tweets were reshared by the Indian envoy Vinay Kumar as well. A Twitter user commented on the tweet, thanking India for the good work it is doing in Afghanistan.
