General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GoC-in-C) of the Army's Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, gave out a clear warning to Pakistan while responding Pakistan Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director Gen Afsar Gafoor's warning of conducting 10 surgical strikes in India.
Addressing the media at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said:
"Indian Army is prepared for a range of options. I want to assure that anytime when situation warrants, we will be able to take action which is deemed appropriate at that time. A surgical strike is one of those options over a wide spectrum of options available to Indian Army, Northern Command and our great nation".
This comes after Pakistan warned of "10 surgical strikes" against India in response to a single such attack on October 13. Major General Asif Ghafoor, the spokesperson of the military's Inter-Services Public Relations, stated this while talking to the media in London, where he is accompanying Pakistan Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on a visit.
"If India dares to launch a surgical strike inside Pakistan, it will face 10 surgical strikes in response," Ghafoor was quoted as saying by Radio Pakistan. He also said "those who think of any misadventure against us should have no doubt in their minds on Pakistan's capabilities".
The military spokesman said the Pakistan Army was the custodian of the USD 50 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and that the mega project will strengthen the economy of the country.
Ghafoor said that the army wanted the strengthening of democracy in Pakistan, and claimed that the general election held earlier this year was the most transparent in the history of the country. "If anyone has evidence of rigging then it should be brought forward," he remarked.
He also rejected reports of restriction on the media and said there was "complete freedom of expression" in the country. Ghafoor said that there were more good developments in Pakistan than bad and that the international media should also highlight the good things.
Ghafoor also remarked that Pakistan has always supported the war against terrorism and has made great sacrifices for that. It works to make the world safer and more peaceful. He said that Pakistan is much better in the present time than what it was before, and is constantly working towards the betterment of the world.
