In a massive development, the Ministry of Home affairs has on Friday, has issued a notification extending the nationwide lockdown by 2 weeks from May 4.  The notification states the considerable relaxations in districts falling in green and orange zones allowed by MHA, will continue to remain in place. Currently, India has 35365 cases with 1152 deaths.

MHA also reiterated that the activities like plying of cycle rickshaws & auto rickshaws, taxis & cab aggregators, intra-district & inter-district plying of buses and barber shops,spas and saloons will remain prohibited in red zones outside containment zones. Moreover, irresepective of zones, travel by air, rail, metro & inter-State movement by road; running of schools, colleges, & other educational & training/coaching institutions will remain prohibited. The Union Health Ministry has divided all districts across the nation as red (classified based on total active cases, doubling rate, extent of testing and surveillance) , orange (those neither in green or red zones) and green zones (Zero cases for past 21 days).

Centre allows movement of stranded migrants

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs permitted the inter-state movement of stranded persons in the country. This move will help migrant workers, students, pilgrims, tourists who have been stranded in different parts of India to return to their home state. While buses will be used for the transportation of the persons, they will be allowed to proceed only after being medically screened and undergoing 14-day quarantine in institutional facilities or home-quarantine. Amending to that order, Ministry of Home Affairs has allowed by special trains to be operated by Ministry of Railways (MOR).  MOR will designate nodal officer(s) for coordinating with State/ UTs for their movement.

As of date, 25148 active cases have been reported of the pandemic Coronavirus (COVID-19) - 9064 have been discharged and Maharashtra reported the highest at 10498. 1152 deaths have been reported till date. India has suspended all visas and barred travel from Afghanistan, Philippines, EU, UK, China, Malaysia and mandatory 14-day quarantine from several other countries. PM Modi has extended the lockdown till May 3, with a relaxation allowed in non-COVID hotspots after April 20.
