IndiGo plane aborts take-off at Bhopal airport due to technical snag in wheels

More than 150 passengers of a Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight from the city survived a scare on Monday evening when the pilot aborted take-off at the last minute at the Raja Bhoj airport due to a technical glitch in the aircraft's wheels.

More than 150 passengers of a Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight from the city survived a scare on Monday evening when the pilot aborted take-off at the last minute at the Raja Bhoj airport due to a technical glitch in the aircraft's wheels. Informing about the incident, an official said that the aircraft carrying 150 passengers was aborted from taking off at the eleventh hour due to technical glitch.  Another IndiGo airline executive confirmed the incident and said that all the passengers were safe.

Speaking to news agency PTI, IndiGo's Bhopal station manager Ekta Shrivastava said, "There were 155 passengers in the plane and all of them were safe," told PTI. Shrivastava added that the Mumbai-bound flight's take-off was aborted at the last minute by the alert pilot after detecting a technical snag in the aircraft's wheels.However, after necessary repairs, the same aircraft later took-off for Mumbai, she added.

The flight, 6E983, was about to take-off when suddenly the pilot stopped it using emergency brakes, a passenger said, requesting anonymity."The plane was moving at a high speed before take-off when it suddenly stopped with a loud sound, causing panic among passengers," he said. The incident took place between 6.30 pm and 6.45 pm, the passenger said.

Earlier, in another incident a Guwahati-bound IndiGo flight from Hyderabad had to make an emergency landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar after one passenger allegedly indulged in unruly behavior mid-air when he tried to open the emergency gates. The IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Guwahati landed in Bhubaneswar after it was diverted under the emergency protocol.

IndiGo which stands for InterGlobe Aviation Limited was founded by Rahul Bhatia of InterGlobe Enterprises and Rakesh Gangwal, a United States-based expatriate Indian in 2006. It operates flights to 66 destinations – 51 domestic and 15 international.  It is not only the largest airline in India by passengers carried and fleet size but also the largest individual Asian low-cost carrier in terms of jet fleet size and passengers carried, and the seventh largest carrier in Asia with over 46 million passengers carried in 2017.
