Indo-Tibetan Border Police salutes nation on its 58th Raising Day

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) which guards Indo-China border on its 58th Raising Day tweeted a Hindi poem in tribute to its service to the nation.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is celebrating its 58th Raising Day on Thursday, October 24. On this occasion, the official Twitter handle of the dedicated force that patrols the porous Indo-China border tweeted a Hindi poem in tribute to its service to the nation. "We dedicate our bodies, we dedicate our hearts, we dedicate our souls. We want to give more to the nation." The Border Security Force, which guards the border with other countries also expressed its heartfelt greetings to the ITBP on its Raising Day.

In national service since 1962

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police was raised on October 24, 1962. Presently, the ITBP is deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3,488 kilometres of Indo-China Border. It is also manning Border Outposts on altitudes ranging from 9,000’ to 18,700’ in the Western, Middle and Eastern sectors of the Indo-China Border. ITBPF is a specialized mountain force and most of the officers and men are professionally trained mountaineers and skiers. Being the first responder for natural disasters, ITBPF has been carrying out numerous rescue and relief operations across the country.

ITBP assures of border security

On Wednesday, October 23, the Director-General (DG) of Indo-Tibetan Border Police SS Deswal assured the people of the country that the borders are secure and the force has a watchful eye. "The two countries (China and India) have good relations. We have predefined mechanisms to sort out problems. We want to assure the nation that the borders are secure", he told reporters at a press conference.

"In the last five to six years, more roads have been constructed in the border areas. Currently, we have 180 Border Out Posts (BOPs). Soon new BOPs will be added", Deswal informed.

The ITBP Chief said the force will soon conduct a survey of the border from the northwest point starting from the Himalayan region of Karakoram in Ladakh up to the Myanmar border for assessing how many BOPs can be setup. The press conference was held just a day ahead of the 58th Raising Day of ITBP.
