Former co-founder of INX Media Indrani Mukerjea, who is in jail currently, on Thursday has said that she is ready to confront senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in the probe of the case. Speaking in the matter, Indrani Mukerjea, who had turned an approver in the corruption case earlier in July, has said that she knows the truth and will stick to her statement. Mukerjea added that she is ready to confront the former Finance Minister for the interrogation in the case. Earlier, the co-accused had termed P Chidambaram's arrest by CBI for interrogation in the INX Media case "good news".
Indrani Mukerjea also said that Chidambaram is now cornered from all sides, while speaking to reporters in a sessions court where she was produced to attend a trial in the case of the killing of her daughter Sheena Bora. She further lashed out P Chidambaram's on Karti and asked for his bail to be cancelled in the INX Media case. Chidambaram was arrested on August 21 by the CBI from his residence after a dramatic series of events. Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukerjea are former promoters of the INX Media Group. She had earlier recorded her statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and had revealed that she and her husband met P Chidambaram at the latter's office in Delhi's North Block.
As per news agency PTI, Indrani Mukerjea had told the investigators probing the money laundering and corruption case in the INX Media case that P Chidambaram has for their help for his son Karti's business. While both the Chidambarams have denied that allegations, Indrani had told the probe officials that P Chidambaram had asked her and husband to make overseas remittances in lieu of granting FIPB approval to INX Media.
"Peter started the conversation with Mr P. Chidambaram referring to the application of INX Media for bringing in FDI and handed copy of the application to Mr P. Chidambaram. After having understood the issue, Mr P. Chidambaram told Peter to help his son Karti in his business and make possible overseas remittances in lieu of FIPB approval," Indrani said in her statement to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Chidambaram has been CBI custody for questioning since his arrest on August 21. On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court's order which denied him anticipatory bail. Furthermore, the Special CBI court also extended the CBI remand of the former Union Minister by 4 days in connection with the INX Media case. He is going to be in CBI custody till August 30 and will be produced before the court on August 30.
