INS Nilgiri launched from slipway into the seas, watch and feel proud

INS Nilgiri, the first ship of the seven P-17A frigates, was launched on Saturday by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's wife Savitri Singh, as per traditions. The launch took place at the dockyard of Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh and other officials were also present on the occasion along with the Defence Minister and his wife.

The P17A frigates incorporate new design concepts for improved survivability, sea keeping, stealth and ship manoeuvrability.

The office of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took to Twitter and shared the video as INS Niligiri launched from the slipway into the seas.

The launch weight of the INS of 2,650 tonnes and it has been built using an integrated construction methodology. The Defence Minister stated that no stone would be left unturned to strengthen the capabilities of our Navy.

Furthermore, Rajnath Singh said, "We are making concerted efforts to modernise the Navy and equip it with the best platforms, weapons, and sensors. Our government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is aware that, any credible defence of a country is based on the indigenous defence capability. Construction of submarines not only benefits the industry but also helps evolve a positive culture of stringent quality control and complex engineering. It brings plough-back benefits for the economy of the nation at large with significant contributions towards ‘Make in India'"

INS Khanderi launched on the same day

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also commissioned India's second Scorpene-class submarine INS Khanderi earlier in the day. INS Khanderi comes equipped with superior stealth and other major combat capabilities such as anti-ship missiles.
