Is it the end of the road for AgustaWestland middleman Christian Michel? Legal sources in Dubai say that Michel does have the option to appeal before a higher court. There is a high possibility that Christian Michel will move The Court of Cassation – the highest court in the judicial system. Sources say Michel has called his lawyer to Dubai to look into the matter.

“Christian Michel does have the option to appeal before a higher court if he is not satisfied with the order passed by the three-judge bench. The current order that has been passed would in all likelihood include the option of appeal,” said Anjana Bhatia, the Dubai-based lawyer who handles Interpol cases.

After a thorough reading of the translated copy of the order that was passed on September 2, Republic TV has learned that the court has completely demolished the argument put forth by Christian Michel’s legal team. The court has dismissed the argument that Michel would be made a political scapegoat if he is extradited to India.

In fact, the three-judge bench observed that there was no reason to hold back Michel in UAE since there was no crime committed in the country but a crime was committed in the applicant’s country.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sources say they will wait for the order before commenting on this matter. “The future course of action will be decided after we go through the order,” said a CBI source. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), meanwhile, maintains that the final call for extradition will be taken by the foreign office of the concerned country. “In case of UAE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) decides the fate of an accused against whom the court has given an extradition order,” said MEA sources on Christian Michel.
