Republic TV has exposed a devious attempt at information warfare by Pakistan following the peaceful integration of Kashmir with the rest of India, busting a vicious fake news campaign on social media. A heavily edited video from Republic TV's The Sunday Debate with Arnab Goswami from February 24 - just ten days after the horrific Pak-backed Pulwama terror attack was shared by handles from Pakistan with malintent and with an aim to propagate ISI propaganda.
The heavily-edited video was originally propagated by a Twitter handle called @WithKashmir_, which has since accepted its illegitimacy and deleted the dubious clip.
However, the clip is still being passed around by a number of Pakistani handles, many of which are verified, which begs the question being asked - why would Twitter India allow the propagation of content which is clearly a threat to national security, and also, why it wouldn't crackdown on such devious handles.
The sliced and diced clips that make up these videos are from The Sunday Debate dated 24 February, 2019, where the motion of the debate was “After Pulwama, should Tukde gang speak in one voice for military solution against Pak?”. The doctored video, however, is aimed at misrepresenting the debate to portray Arnab Goswami as having indulged in “journalism of genocide” against the people of Kashmir.
"We now need to have a tough military option and I am saying as a proud Indian, I am prepared for collateral damage," Arnab says in the heavily edited video, with the titles claiming "While Kashmiris are virtually under military siege, Indian media is literally baying for their blood on prime time TV."
However, the original video makes clear that Arnab went on to speak further - i.e. beyond "collateral damage" and sought military action against terrorists in J&K:
"I am saying that we now need to have a tough military option and I am saying as a proud Indian, I am prepared for collateral damage to take on terrorists within Jammu and Kashmir and their supporters".
The original video was aired on Republic TV on February 24 after the Pulwama attack which was carried by Pak-backed Hafiz Saeed's Jaish-e-Mohammad and resulted in the martyrdom of 40 CRPF soldiers. The timing of the conveniently edited video is also suspect as it has been shared a day after both Houses of Parliament passed the bills to integrate Kashmir with the rest of India through the revocation of Article 370 which had given Jammu and Kashmir a separate identity and status than the rest of the nation. The event took place smoothly with overwhelming support from Opposition parties for the move as well. The erstwhile hotbeds of violence in Kashmir also been peaceful since the Bills were passed.
The same debate also saw Arnab stating Republic's real position on Kashmir:
'We can trust the people of Kashmir. The people of Kashmir want to be freed from these anti-india forces. Also, watch viewers, I know it's a long introduction, but just watch the thousands of Kashmiri youth who came out in Baramulla this last week for the recruitment camp. If you saw those visuals there you would realise that the youth in Kashmir is fed up of the anti-nationals within Kashmir. The real youth of Kashmir feel they are being taken for a ride, they know that the government of India provides jobs, the people of India provide financial security and that they want to be part of the federation that we call the Republic of India. It's only small groups that are against it."
The above tweet also tags one of the many ISI stooges who shared the clip.
