Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday night, in a special address, paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Terming his demise as end of an era and a personal loss, Prime Minister Modi said “In Atal ji's passing away, it is as if I have lost my father. It's a void which can never be filled.”
“His demise has marked the end of an era. India has lost its 'anmol ratna'. We are at a loss of words,” said the Prime Minister.
Further, lauding the the late 93-year-old statesman’s multi-faceted personality PM Modi said:
“The sorrow I feel with his loss goes beyond words. He was a people’s leader, sharp orator, prolific poet, journalist and an influential global personality. And most importantly, he was a true son of the soil. He taught me the importance of organisation and governance. He gave me the the support and strength to work in these systems. Whenever he used to meet me, he used to greet me like a father-figure, with intimacy, he used to hug me. For me, his passing away is a void which can never be filled.”
The Prime Minister also credited him for wherever the Bharatiya Janata Party stands currently.
“Atal ji, through his skilled leadership and continuous struggle laid the foundation of Jana Sangh and BJP,” said the PM.
Prime Minister Modi then said that even though Vajpayee has left us, his words and ideas will continue to inspire us.
“Even though he has left us, his words, his life, his vision and ideas would keep on inspiring us. His glorious personality will keep on guiding us. At this time of grief, I want to pay my tribute to Atal ji,” said PM Modi.
Meanwhile, hours after the demise of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, an emotional video started to trend on Twitter, wherein the former Prime Minister can be seen hugging the incumbent Prime Minister. At the time of the incident, PM Modi was a worker in the BJP.
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last at 05.05 pm on Thursday in AIIMS, New Delhi. Post his demise, along with the nation, global leaders too mourn the loss of the towering political figure.
Meanwhile, state funeral would be accorded to Vajpayee and a seven day mourning has been announced to honour the former PM.
