The statement read, "Further, keeping in view the prevailing internal security situation, fuelled by cross border terrorism in the existing state of Jammu and Kashmir, a separate Union Territory for Jammu and Kashmir is being created. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be with the legislature."

'Chhapaak' actor Vikrant Massey who has been critical towards Bhartiya Janta Party all his life took to his Twitter handle to support them 'for once'. He also thanked Home Minister Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and stressed on the fact that 'Article 370 had to go'. Take a look at his tweets -

Vikrant also liked director Hansal Mehta's tweet that said 'the government did well to end the continued inaction and lack of political will of previous governments on Kashmir'. Prologue to Amit Shah's Rajya Sabha announcement

Shah joined PM Narendra Modi during the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security and later in the Cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Shah had also held a one-hour meeting with Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad before his meeting with the Prime Minister.
