Wearing layers of clothes in shivering temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir, people turn to hot tea and bonfire to keep themselves warm. The average day temperature ranges from 8 to 9 degrees Celsius and the average night temperature is from 5 to 6 degrees Celsius. Some places in Jammu like Udhampur, Kishtwar have temperatures down to below zero degrees Celsius.
