In India, no matter where you go, you will always find innovative and efficient methods. Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan‏ came across one such out of the box idea and according to him, 'this can happen only in India'. Mr Chouhan took to Twitter to share a 'WhatsApp wonder box' video of 'Lord Shiva' statue.

So what's so special about this statue?

Unlike a regular statue which stays at one place, this particular Lord Shiva Statue can move, sit, stand up and even dance. Hard to believe? Well! see it yourself:

"India is a land of marvellous engineers. See what I found in the #WhatsApp wonder box today. This can only happen in India", the former Chief Minister wrote to describe the video.

At the beginning of the video, the idol of Lord Shiva appears to be sitting when suddenly a movement is noticed. The statue slowly stands up and in the next blink, you can see the statue dancing to the beat. This gives it a more realistic impression. Indeed smart engineering!

So, how does this engineering work?

The idol of 'Lord Shiva' is an animatronics statue. Animatronics is a multi-disciplinary field which integrates anatomy, robots, mechatronics, and puppetry resulting in lifelike animation.

Animatronics refers to the use of cable-pulled devices or motors to emulate a human or an animal, or bring lifelike characteristics to an otherwise inanimate object. Animatronic figures are often powered by pneumatics, hydraulics, and/or by electrical means, and can be implemented using both computer control and human control, including teleoperation. Motion actuators are often used to imitate muscle movements and create realistic motions in limbs. Figures are covered with body shells and flexible skins made of hard and soft plastic materials and finished with details like colors, hair and feathers and other components to make the figure more lifelike.

If you will look closely, you can spot cables and wires that make the Lord Shiva statue move. Similar, techniques are used in Dino theme parks or for that matter any other theme park which uses 'physical animation' to make an object look lifelike.
