BJP's Hans Raj Hans in a contentious appeal has asked to rename the country's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to 'Narendra Modi University' as MNU.
While speaking over the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP MP implied that mistakes have been made by predecessors in the past, which needs to be fixed.
The BJP North West Delhi lawmaker who was at the University for the remembrance of freedom fighters on Saturday, hit out at the Nehru-Gandhi family while speaking over the prevailing Kashmir issue.
He said, "We are facing the brunt of the mistakes committed by our elders"
"Pray that we all live in peace and no bombing takes place. I would say we should rename JNU after Prime Minister Narendra Modi as MNU. Something should be named after Modi ji," he added.
Speaking to the media over Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP legislator accused former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of committing mistakes in the past.
On Saturday evening, BJP MPs and artists Manoj Tiwari and Hans Raj Hans performed on the JNU campus, on patriotic songs. The program organised by ABVP, the student wing of RSS, was called 'ek shaam shaheedo ke naam' and came days ahead of the JNU elections for the student body.
BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari noted that he was witnessing a 'positive JNU' which chanted slogans of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai.'
He said, "We are seeing a positive JNU here. In the past some have given slogans of 'Bharat tere tukde hone' in the University but this institution has grown and changed with time. We heard students raising slogans of 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai.'"
A week ago, JNU was in the news after anti-national slogans were heard yet again from within the campus, this time against the abrogation of Article 370 that withdraws the special status provided to Jammu and Kashmir.
In the video accessed by Republic, a man was saying: "If it is your home, and I occupy it, it is an atrocity. Kashmiris will not accept this atrocity. When his culture will not be there, how will he show his face, what will he say on being asked who is he?" After this, Azadi slogans were raised and slogans of 'Article 370 vapas lao' (bring back Article 370) was heard.
