Jolt to SAD: MP resign; Prem Singh Chandumajra says meet would be held

Shrimoni Akaki Dal (SAD) has been dealt with another blow as the senior leader, Secretary General and Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has resigned from all the posts of the party. 

He has also resigned from the core committee of the SAD, citing the health and personal reasons. He has sent his resignation to party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. With the resignation of senior Akali leader, there is total political change in Punjab politics as recently, SAD was sidelined by ruling Congress party when Ranjit Singh Commission report was tabled in the Vidhan Sabha, which blamed SAD for sacrilege incidents.

Since then, SAD had called all the senior leaders like Sukhdev Singh Dhinsa, former minister Sewa Singh to hold press conference with media to improve the image of the party. It is also learnt that senior leaders who worked with former CM Parkash Singh Dhinsa were not able to adjust in the new Sukhbir Badal corporate party. The senior leaders were sulking within the party as the decisions were taken by Sukhbir Badal team.

Meanwhile, MP Prem Singh Chandumajra talked to Republic Tv, wherein he said that he has just learnt about the resign of Dhinsa and he would talk to him and a meeting would be convened to pacify him. 

On the other hand, opposition leader of Congress said that it's a downfall of SAD as senior leader filed his resignation. His resignation has sent the political circles in a spin, given that resignation of a senior “Taksali” leader at a time when the party’s facing its worst ever political crisis — politics over the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report on sacrilege incidents of 2015, have discredited the party as a political representative of the Sikhs.  

It may be mentioned that Dhindsa was not present in the party’s first “Jabar Virodhi” rally held at Faridkot earlier this month. Though his son and former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa was present in the rally, his absence became a subject of political gossip.  

In his resignation letter sent to the party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, Dhindsa has said that he had always worked for the welfare of the party, but would not be able to work as the secretary general or member of the party core committee.
