Kailash Vijayavargiya accuses; says Mamata doesn't follow Constitution

BJP's general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Tuesday alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government does not follow the Indian Constitution. The comments by the BJP general secretary came after the District Magistrate (DM) of North 24 Parganas Chaitali Chakrabarti asked the State Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to first take a permission from the state government to conduct a meeting with district officials.

"The West Bengal government is Mamata Banerjee's government. It does not follow the Constitution. If the Governor of the state has to take permission it implies that Mamata Ji's law works in West Bengal and not the country's law," Vijayvargiya told a news agency.

'NRC decision will be taken by the central government'- Kailash Vijayvargiya

The meeting was planned to be conducted at the Zilla Parishad Guest House in Dhamakhali of North 24 Parganas district on October 22. When asked whether he agreed with Mamata Banerjee's stance on NRC, Kailash Vijayvargiya said that the Central government has power over the decision on whether to implement National Register of Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal. 

"Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister of West Bengal and not the Prime Minister. It's a central government's decision whether to implement the NRC or not, why is she so worried? If the Centre decides to implement NRC, she will not be able to do anything about it as it will be the central government's decision," he said.

The West Bengal CM again expressed her displeasure saying that NRC will not be implemented in the state as it will "destroy peace". She also asserted that every person living in the state is an Indian Citizen. The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo has always openly opposed the implementation of NRC. The NRC exercise was recently implemented in Assam. More than 19 lakh people in the state were excluded from the final list out of 3.29 crore people.
