Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam's Head Quarter was inaugurated at Pollachi on Wednesday.

Kamal Haasan had officially announced on December 22 that his party will contest the upcoming elections in 2019. The actor-politician said his party was willing to join hands with like-minded parties who are against corruption and focused on making Tamil Nadu a progressive state.

"The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) is ready to join hands with those parties, who dream to make Tamil Nadu a progressive State and also corruption-free," Haasan told reporters at nearby Pollachi after inaugurating the party office there.

When asked about him contesting the Lok Sabha elections, he said it would be decided by the party.

The party would discuss all these issues in detail since it was formed for the benefit of Tamil Nadu and not individuals, the MNM chief added.

He also spoke about his party forming alliances during the inaugural Republic Summit held in December 2018.

"You are putting me in a group without my permission. I’m not ready to be forced into an alliance. I am keeping my options open, but maybe is not a yes. Don’t align me with Mahagatbandhan. Keeping my options open for 2019," said Kamal Hassan during the Republic Summit when asked whether he will join the grand alliance (Mahagathbandhan).

Haasan, had released a statement on January 5 saying that he will decide on contesting the Thiruvarur By-elections. The party released a press notice detailing the excerpts discussed on January 5.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha 2019 elections, the agenda of the District In-charges, Assembly Constituency In-charges and Area In-charges was a part of the dialogue.  The meeting further conversed about facing the elections at Thiruvarur "despite the misuse of power and distribution of money in exchange for votes by the ruling and the opposition parties."

However, the by-elections were cancelled by the Election Commission as it would clash with the implementation of relief measures in areas hit by the Gaja cyclone.
