As India is commemorating 20 years of the Kargil war on Friday, July 26, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat addressed the celebrations at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, COAS Bipin Rawat recalled the statement made by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who gave the task to the Indian defence forces to evict the Pakistan intruders from the icy heights of Dras. Adding that is a historic event for India, the Army General asserted that Kargil War was the war, the forces were confident to win and throwback the Pakistani intruders who had attempted the misadventure of occupying the heights around Dras.
"A war that we were compelled to undertake, to throwback those Pakistani intruders who had attempted the misadventure of occupying the heights around Dras, Kargil betallic. When the task was given to the Indian Army to evict the intruders, I recall the statement by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee where he said, "The Indian Defence Forces have been directed to remove the infiltration from the Dras' heights" and he added that even before the Indian soldier is launched into battle, we are confident that victory will be ours. That was the confidence he had imposed on the defence services. And they did not let him down," the General Bipin Rawat said.
Marking the day, General Rawat conveyed a message to the countrymen, saying that they can rest in the assurance that any task given to the Indian Armed forces will be accomplished no matter how challenging it will be. He assured the citizens that they can sleep in peace because the soldiers will continue to man and guard the borders under all circumstances.
"Let me convey a message to our countrymen, that you be can rest assured that any task given to our defence services will always be accompalished no matter how challenging or how difficult the task is. Our soldiers will continue to man and guard the borders under challenging circumstances so that you can be in peace and sleep in comfort in your homes," he added.
He went on to add that the Indian forces only need the support of their countrymen to that the soldiers can remain motivated to serve the country and continue doing their tasks as ever before.
"All we need is your support so that soldier can continue to remain motivated and continue to carry out their tasks as ever before."
India celebrates the 20th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday, remembering the sacrifices made by the Indian Army during the 1999 Kargil War and their victory over Pakistan's infiltration in the Indian territory. In the lead up to the victory celebrations on D-Day themed 'Remember, Rejoice and Renew', there are various tributes dedicated to the martyrs by the Indian Army.
