Karnataka Floods: State government declares holiday till August 15

The ongoing floods have dealt heavy damage to the southern state of Karnataka which is battling severe floods.

According to reports, the state government has declared a holiday till August 15 for all schools and colleges. The holiday has been declared for both government and private institutions in Dakshina Kannada, Uttar Kannada, Raichur, Bagalkot, Belgavi, Chikkodi, Shivamogga, Bidar, Haveri, Kodagu, Koppal, Yadgir, Kalaburgi, Dharwad, Ballari, Hassan, Udupi, Gadag districts.

So far the B.S. Yediyurappa-led Karnataka Government has set up 186 relief camps where over 14000 flood victims are sheltered. The government confirmed that the numbers are likely go up:

In addition, six teams of special forces have also been deployed with three helicopters to assist in the relief and rescue operations:
