It seems like troubling times knocking on Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy's door, as his relatives, one after the other, are making news for the wrong reasons.
A notice has been sent to Kumaraswamy's nephew Prajwal Revanna to come clear on the construction of illegal structures on his property at Hassan district in Karnataka.
The notice was sent by the Hassan City Municipal Council. The notice states that Prajwal has illegally built structures in his property that's close to the state highway. The municipal body has said that he has violated norms Under Section 187 of the Karnataka Municipalities Act 1964.
"This notice is to inform Prajwal and Suraj Revanna that your property in ward no 1 RB Road, Hassan district. It is come to our notice that in properties no.644 and 430 buildings have been constructed by violating the laws. BM Road comes under the state highway and therefore the 15 metres from either sides of the road belongs to the authority. Rules don't permit any buildings to be built six meters from the state highway," the notice states.
The owner is required to produce documentation relating to the ownership of the land before the municipal authorities within seven days of the notice failing which the buildings will be demolished.
Earlier, former Karnataka minister and Congress leader A Manju had alleged that Prajwal Revanna and others in chief minister's family of land grabbing. The recent notice to Prajwal Revanna has only added to the damage. He was touted to get a ticket to contest in the recently concluded assembly elections in Karnataka.
The BJP has hit out at the government regarding the notice. "This has come as no surprise. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and his family have been accumulating wealth through illegal means. I appreciate the officer for his courage for sending a notice to Prajwal Revanna despite foreseeable consequences."
Prajwal Revanna may have to respond to the notice within a week failing which municipal authorities may demolish the structure. All said and done, the recent of events involving the chief minister's family has given political fodder for the opposition to attack the government.
