Chennai's Kauvery hospital on Monday evening issued a fresh medical bulletin regarding the condition of ailing DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi.

In the medical update, the hospital wrote:

"There has been decline in the medical condition of Kalaignar Dr M Karunanidhi, DMK President and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Maintaining his vital organ functions continues to remain a challenge considering his age related ailments."

"He is on continuous monitoring and being treated with active medical support. His response to the medical interventions over the next 24 hours will determine the prognosis"

Karunanidhi, 94, was admitted to hospital late on Saturday, July 28, after a sudden drop in his blood pressure. His condition was subsequently brought under control, following which a number of important political leaders flew down to Chennai to meet him.

Among these were the President and Vice President of India, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Tamil Nadu CM Edapadi Palaniswamy and others.
