Kasganj Violence: Victim's Family, Friends Stage Protest

Kasganj continues to be on the boil as sporadic incidents of violence have been reported from the area even as it’s been 4 days of eruption of violence in the UP town. According to the recent reports, Chandan’s friends have been detained by the police on Monday night. Chandan’s family and friends have been protesting on roads demanding justice for the 19-year-old. His family is also refusing to accept the compensation offered to them by the government.

Chandan Gupta died in the firing of January 26, when clashes erupted in Kasganj. Chandan was killed for allegedly waving the tricolour in the Tiranga Yatra March.

Meanwhile, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has said that they will join Tiranga March for justice for Chandan Gupta.

Earlier on Monday, Uttar Pradesh police have confirmed to Republic TV that six FIRs have been filed in Kasganj violence.

 

"One FIR has been filed in relation to the death (of 19-year-old Chandan Abhishek), while five FIRs have been filed for rioting and arson, " Piyush Srivastava, the new Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kasganj district, told Republic TV in an exclusive interview.

The FIR, which Republic TV has a copy of, confirms that the tricolour was disrespected at the rally and anti-national slogans were raised. 

One person died and two others were injured after a clash broke out between two communities during 'Tiranga Yatra' in the district on Republic Day.

Both the groups reportedly pelted stones and also fired bullets at each other.
