Unanimously decided to postpone the religious celebrations

The bride, Prathyusha's house, Chemmakuzi is in the grama panchayat of Changaroth. The mosque and Prathyusha's house is separated by a mere four-metre-wide road, the house and the mosque are opposite to each other, with the madrasa also being housed in the compound. Mahal Committee Secretary N C Abdurahman stated that when they got to know that Prathyusha's wedding falls on Milad-Un-Nabi which is the birthday of Prophet Mohammad, the mahal committee members held discussions a week before the festivities and unanimously decided to put the religious celebrations to Sunday, November 17.

Further commenting on why this decision was taken, Mahal Committee member O T Basheer stated that during the Milad-Un-Nabi celebrations there would be oppana, duffmuttu, songs and other competitions for students on Milad-Un-Nabi day which would create a festive atmosphere. Basheer added, the festivities can always be organised on another day, but marriage is a very special occasion and that too of a girl staying so close. The bride's brother Prasoon A P stated that at the time of fixing the date for the marriage, we did not realise that Milad-Un-Nabi was on the same. Prasoon further added, if I had known that the mahal is postponing their celebrations for the wedding, I would have requested them not to do so and instead the marriage and Milad-Un-Nabi celebrations could have both been conducted on the same day.

The food that was served at Prathyusha's wedding, Prasoon stated was served by medical students and engineering graduates. The medical students and graduates are also members of the families of the Mahal Committee members. Now to repay the kindness shown to them, Prathyusha's brother has invited all 11 Mahal Committee members, led by President Idivetty Moidu Haji to his house for a reception during his sister's first homecoming after her marriage.
