Even as the NCW chief has said that MLA PC George, who had issued derogatory statements against Kerala nun, will be summoned through police if he fails to turn up on September 20, CPM leader Ma Baby has called George’s statement “reprehensible”. He also said that he believes that police will take appropriate action against the independent MLA after they have recorded the nun’s statement.
“To the best of my knowledge an important police officer is collecting the response from the victim and based on the record, I think Kerala police will take appropriate action in this particular case. The observations made and the words used by MLA PC George is reprehensible, and I hope he himself may do a sincere introspection. Anyway, the law will have to take its own course,” said Ma Baby.
Meanwhile, Kerala Assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan has also said that he will seek an explanation from PC George in connection with the statements made by him against the victim nun.
“P C George's remarks were unbecoming a member of the assembly,” said P Sreeramakrishnan.
The independent MLA from Kerala’s Poonjar had compared the rape victim nun to a prostitute. When Republic TV confronted the misogynist MLA on Sunday, he remained brazen and refused to apologise for his remarks. He even shamelessly said that in his opinion the nun came forward just for “publicity”.
When Republic TV questioned his misogynism and asked him whether he would step down taking responsibility for his statement, George laughed it off and said, “For what should I apologise. What I said is correct.”
Earlier in the day, the rape victim nun wrote a letter to the Vatican against Bishop Franco Mulakkal. In the letter, she alleged that the bishop is using money power to scuttle the complaint and the case. The victim nun also requested for immediate intervention from the Vatican.
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court has also directed Kerala government to inform about the steps taken by the Special Investigation Team of the Kerala Police probing the case of alleged rape of a nun by bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Roman Catholic Church.
This comes a day after the Missionaries of Jesus issuing a press statement, rejecting the allegations levelled against the Bishop. The Church while seeking to defend the accused Bishop in the case, took on the victim instead. The Missionaries of Jesus in Jalandhar has lashed out at the nun and said the “innocent Bishop is being crucified with baseless allegations,” adding, “our Bishop did not rape.”
