Kurnool Tehsildar tied a rope inside her office as a barricade

A tehsildar in Kurnool's Pathikonda Uma Maheshwari on Wednesday, November 6, defined clear boundaries for her visitors, quite literally. Maheshwari tied a rope inside her office as a barricade between her chair & the visitors to stop the visitors from coming close to her. This action comes after a tehsildar from Telangana was set ablaze in her chamber.

Speaking to the media Uma Maheswari said, "Yesterday some people came to my office without any application, they were drunk. Seeing them in such a condition scared me. So I tied a rope creating a barricade b/w my chair & the visitors. The rope was tied for only an hour, later I removed it. I did so only out of fear. I panicked after Vijaya's murder (Abdullapurmet Tehsildar set ablaze in her office)."

Uma Maheshwari did not allow any of her visitors to cross the rope. If the visitors have to pass documents to her, they were supposed to maintain a safe distance. Uma Maheshwari told the media that she was forced to take this step to ensure her safety.

Abdullapurmet Tehsildar set ablaze in her office

Earlier, a woman tehsildar (block revenue officer) was burnt alive in her office by a visitor on the outskirts of Hyderabad, sending shockwaves across the state of Telangana due to the barbaric nature of the crime. The incident took place on Monday afternoon at Abdullapurmet in Rangareddy district which is about 40km away from Hyderabad. According to Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, a man entered the chambers of Vijaya Reddy at around 1 pm, poured petrol on her and set her on fire.

A video, which was captured moments after the incident, shows Vijaya engulfed in flames outside her chamber. In the video, she was seen crying for help and later collapsed on the ground. Office staff, who were unable to come to terms with the tragedy, tried to douse the fire with a carpet. But the effort went in vain as the body of Vijaya Reddy was badly burnt and was lying outside her chamber before the police arrived on the scene.
