Land grab case comes back to haunt Former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is in the dock over land grab allegations. Karnataka DG IGP has written to the police commissioner of Mysuru to submit a report on the allegations and also sought suggestions regarding handing over the case to CBI. Siddaramaiah is facing allegations of violating MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority) rules to usurp a piece of land. 

Republic TV has accessed the letter sent by the office of the Karnataka DG-IGP, which reads as follows:

According to the above-mentioned information in relation to case no.49/2018 registered in Lakshmi Puram police station at Mysuru district in Karnataka. I seek a detailed report on the investigations and suggestions for the case to be handed over to the CBI.

The issue came to light after a complaint was lodged at Lakshmi Puram police station at Mysuru district in Karnataka on June 23rd 2018. Gangaraju, the complaint said, "There are several irregularities that have taken place under MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority). I'd complained to the police. I urge the issue to be probed by the CBI as several top bureaucrats are suspected to be involved in it."

The case had earlier come to light before the recently concluded assembly elections. Republic tv accessed the FIR filed in the case. Siddaramaiah has been named Accused no.1 whereas Basavegowda and Dhruvakumar have been named as accused no.2  and no.3 respectively.
 
The BJP took a dig at Siddaramaiah on the issue, "It seems like the government is more or less shielding Siddaramaiah as the investigations have not achieved much progress. It's shameful that former CM Siddaramaiah who speaks about honesty and integrity has now been booked under sec 420. The Karnataka DG and IGP must take strict action as per the law." - S Prakash, Spokesperson, BJP

With Lok Sabha polls around the corner, Siddaramaiah is expected to play a key role in developing strategies for the Congress party. The BJP, on the other hand, is looking for issues to target the coalition government. The direction in which the land grab case involving Siddaramaiah proceeds may well be a game changer to both the parties.
