After US President Donald Trump claimed that India requested him to play the role of a mediator in the Kashmir dispute during a meet with Pakistan PM Imran Khan, Congress' Randeep Surjewala has asked PM Modi to 'answer to the nation'

The Congress leader asserted that India has 'never accepted a third-party mediation' over the dispute in Jammu and Kashmir, and further blindly believing the claims of Donald Trump stated that it is a 'sacrilegious betrayal' of the country's interest by PM Modi.

Despite MEA's clarification that PM Modi asked no such intervention in the ' disputed Kashmir' issue,  Surjewala demanded that PM Modi issue a statement calling out Trump.

Meanwhile, Congress' Shashi Tharoor calling out the US President's claim said that rump has definitely not been briefed or has understood what Modi was saying, asking the MEA to clarify India's stance that India has never sought his intercession.

Meanwhile, an official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs set the record straight stating that Trump's claims are false and that no such request had been made by PM Modi. He added that any engagement with Pakistan will be decided bilaterally only, as per the Shimla Agreement and Lahore Declaration.

Sitting alongside Trump in the Oval Office, the Pakistan PM Imran Khan asked the US President to conciliate the Kashmir dispute with India, to which Trump in a fallacious claim stated that he was already asked by PM Modi to do the same, further expressed his willingness to be the mediator between the two countries.
