Maha: Ex-Cong corporator, son booked for 2016 murder

A case was registered against former Congress corporator and his son for allegedly killing a small-time gangster in Ulhasnagar town of Maharashtra's Thane district in 2016, police said on Saturday.

A case was registered against former Congress corporator and his son for allegedly killing a small-time gangster in Ulhasnagar town of Maharashtra's Thane district in 2016, police said on Saturday.

The police have registered a case of murder against Godumal alias Godu Narayandas Kishnani, his son Pravin and another accused identified as Ravi, an official of the Khadakpada police station said.

Kishnani was a Congress corporator of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, he said.

On February 3, 2016, Naresh Asandas Pahalajani alias Naresh Chaddi (52) was found dead at his home and a case of accidental death was registered at the time, he said.

However, the deceased's family alleged that he had been killed and even named a few suspects, the official said, adding that the post-mortem had revealed that the victim was smothered to death.

Based on further probe, an offence was lodged against the trio but no arrests have been made so far, the official said. Chaddi was a key witness in a murder case in the 1990s and was wanted in 10 criminal cases in Ulhasnagar, he added.
