A retired Indian Army Major General achieved an outstanding feat by completing a grueling event and beating his own record in it in Germany

An Ironman Triathlon is generally known to be one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world, with competitors having to complete the events - swimming, cycling and running - in sequence within 17 hours to earn the title of 'Ironman'.

Major General Vikram Dogra (Retired) on Wednesday not only completed the challenge but also broke his own previous record.

In 2018, he had completed the event (when it was held in Klagenfurt, Austria) in 14 hours and 21 minute and become the first serving Indian Army officer and the only General across the world to have completed the 'Ironman' competition.

The 60-year old has been congratulated by Army Chief Bipin Rawat. The Indian Army also posted a celebratory tweet in the honour of his stupendous achievement.

Watch (Retd) Major General Vikram Dogra complete the overwhelming challenge:

(Retd) Major General Dogra in 2018 had spoken to Republic TV after he had first completed the event. Talking about what motivated him to take up this grueling change in the twilight years of his career, the Major General (Retd) said," I did it as a personal goal. Since I'm retiring at the end of January, and once you are settled, rarely there is not much of a challenge left at work. I firmly believe that, you need to look at something that challenges you in life. So, when I was scanning as to what it could be, I found the Ironman event to be interesting, and therefore, I thought it would the appropriate challenge to take up."
