In a big success for the forces, the Indian army on Monday foiled a major infiltration bid along the line of control (LoC) in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district and gunned down five infiltrators.

While two Terrorists were gunned on Sunday evening, three more were killed on Monday morning. Though, an army Jawan also lost his life while fighting the infiltrators on the line of control, a defence spokesman told Republic.

The operation was launched after a group of infiltrators were detected along the line of control in the Tangdhar sector, the spokesman said. He added that the army laid an ambush in the area and challenged the infiltrators, who however started firing towards the army.

This fresh infiltration from Pakistan that was foiled by the army on Monday once again exposes Pakistan's nefarious designs to push in trained terrorists into the Indian side so as to vitiate the atmosphere in the Kashmir valley.

"Pakistan side is desperate to push in these terrorists into the Indian side but our Jawans are alert to foil any such attempt," a senior army officer said.

Monday's infiltration bid on the line of control comes barely a few days after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had written a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries on the sidelines of United National General Assembly Session in New York.

The request for a meeting was accepted by India at first, but was later rejected after Pakistan rangers violated the Ceasefire on the International Border in Jammu region and mutilated the body of a BSF Jawan, Pakistan also provoked India by issuing postal stamps for dead terrorists.

"Dialogue was just a public relations exercise by Pakistan and also it wants to but time and today once again they stand exposed as their aim is to keep the Kashmir pot boiling by sending in these terrorists from its soil," a senior officer from the intelligence department said.

Meanwhile, the situation along the international border in Jammu region continues to be tense after the killing and mutilation of the BSF Jawan in the Samaba sector on September 18.
