Man caught masturbating in Kolkata bus, arrested after woman uploads video on Facebook

A man was arrested on Saturday after he was caught masturbating in a public bus in Kolkata. The indecent gesture was filmed by the woman who was the object of the indecent act.

A man was arrested on Saturday after he was caught masturbating in a public bus in Kolkata. The indecent gesture was filmed by the woman who was the object of the indecent act. The woman who had filmed the criminal act posted the video on her Facebook page and also on Kolkata police’s Facebook page seeking justice. Swiftly reacting to the post which went viral on social media, the police nabbed down the culprit in eight hours.

In her Facebook post, the complainant wrote,

“Me and my friend were on our way back to home at around 12 noon. We boarded bus number 30B/1 from Hedua park. Suddenly, we saw this man making indecent gestures while staring at us. While there were others in the bus, no one protested."

While narrating her ordeal, the woman also accused the bus conductor of doing nothing even after she brought the case to his notice. As per the complainant’s version, the bus conductor allegedly smiled and said,

“What can we do, how do we read what's on people's mind!"

She also alleged when she shouted out for help to catch hold of the man, no one came forward to help her.

Through her post, it also become clear that the man in question was not a first time offender.

"On another occasion, this man had done the same but I could not do anything as I did not have proof in hand," she wrote.

After nabbing the culprit, one Asit Ray, the Kolkata police took to its Facebook page to inform about the arrest and also put out a picture of the culprit while narrating the incident.

"This is the man. He has been caught and will be punished most definitely," the police wrote on its Facebook page.

As per the post put by the police Roy is a hawker by trade and a resident of Baidyabati in Hooghly district. In the post, the police described Roy as a man with a corrupt and diseased mind.

In the end, the police signed off the post writing, “Punishment is certain. Keep the faith.”

The Kolkata police have since then garnered a lot of praise on social media for the swift action against the culprit.
