The Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel served a notice to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and BJP MLA Manjinder Singh on Thursday over his 'defamatory' tweet.
The controversy triggered after Sirsa, in a tweet claimed that a car which displayed a sticker that read 'son of MLA' belonged to the Speaker's son.
However, following the accusation, Goel sought a written apology within seven days. He further added that if the apology is not received, he would go ahead with legal proceedings and prosecute the Akali Dal leader for criminal defamation.
In a tweet, Sirsa said, "This car belongs to AAP leader and Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel's son. Retweet maximum to show Delhi people how Aam Aadmi Party leaders are changing politics"
The notice sent by the advocate on behalf of the Speaker stated that the car does not belong to Geol's son. The 'false and defamatory' allegations and statements have damaged the reputation of Goel.
The notice called up Sirsa to stop any further circulation of the "report justifying false claims." It further said that the tweet was done to score 'political gain'
