Reservation Constitutional Amendment Bill:

We welcome this decision. But we still believe that this only a political stunt. They have announced the reservation just before their elections, while they should have implemented the reservation quotas earlier itself. People also think that this is a political stunt, but still, BSP will support this decision because this is what the party also demands: BSP supremo Mayawati

Reservation Constitutional Amendment Bill:

This is a 'jumla' because SCs have 16%, STs 7% and OBCs have 27% reservation. So, total 50% reservation is there. And it cannot be more than that. The constitution will have to be amended for that. So the PM from the BJP has done another 'jumla' by bringing 10% reservation for the unreserved Economically Weaker Section. If you are serious then bring a constitutional amendment - Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh

Reservation Constitutional Amendment Bill:

We demand 5 % for Muslims in this new 10 % quota for Economically Weaker Sections. We saw what happened in Maharashtra, MP and Rajasthan. People went down to the streets and they got their demands. We must not forget the second largest population in our country and that is - Muslims.  For Muslims, situation is not good here. We are even downgraded than Dalits. We demanded to be put under Dalit category so that we will get some reservation but nobody paid attention to us. We are the most suitable to get these new reservations because we are economically and socially backward: Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party leader

In our country the incidents which have taken place we should see that also. The Hindu samajh has been reduced in one country to 72%. More than 2.5 lakh women were raped.  34.2% is the Muslim population is in Assam now, this is a considerable increase. You havea problem with us giving minorities of the three countries citizenship. The questions raised by them I will respond to that, I want to assure the people of Assam that their culture and customs will be safeguarded by the Central government. It would have been good if in 1947 the country was not divided on the basis of religion.  People from both the countries were concerned that the minorities of the countries should be given protection. Long term visa can be given to the majorities of three countries: Rajnath Singh

A massive day looms in Parliament on Tuesday as a raft of significant and politically key bills are set to be tabled, including the Reservation Constitutional Amendment bill to enable the increase in reservation quota from 50% to 60%, with the additional quota to be availed by Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). In addition, the Triple Talaq bill and the Citizenship Amendment bill are set to be tabled, with both BJP and Congress issuing three-line-whips to their MPs making their presence in the floor of the house mandatory. The Winter Session may be extended in the Rajya Sabha if need be, in the event the Lok Sabha passes the Reservation bill. Here's an account of what is in store in Parliament:

Constitutional Amendment Bill for reservation for Economically Weaker Sections

The Narendra Modi-led government on Monday resolved to bring in a constitutional amendment to increase reservation quotas to benefit Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).  As per sources, the reservations will go up from the current 50% to 60% and will be applicable for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) to get reservation in jobs and in education, thereby serving as a huge mode of upliftment. The new reservations will be applicable to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) across religions.

A constitutional amendment bill is to be moved in Parliament on January 8 by union minister Thawar Chand Gehlot. Both the BJP and Congress have issued a whip to party MPs to be present in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Citizenship Amendment Bill

The Cabinet approved the Citizenship Amendment Bill (2016) in the Lok Sabha on January 7. The bill grants Indian citizenship by naturalisation to communities such as Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Jains, Parsis and Sikhs, fleeing persecution in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Citizenship would be granted to those who have lived in India for six or more years. The government argued that the bill is intended to those 'escaping persecution' and not for economic migrants.

The Bill is likely to be moved in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Triple Talaq Bill

The government has once again listed the Triple Talaq Bill for discussion and voting in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu is expected to announce the decision to members on Tuesday itself. It was in the upper house that the previous version of the Triple Talaq bill was blocked after being allowed to pass in the Lok Sabha. Last week, the amended version of the bill was passed in the lower house yet again, though the Opposition has demanded that the bill be sent to a Joint Standing Committee first.
