India has entered an elite club of nations that are capable of knocking off satellites in space, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Wednesday after a DRDO missile tested off the Odisha coast successfully hit a low orbit satellite. Even as the nation celebrated India becoming a space superpower on Wednesday, the Congress party and its president Rahul Gandhi resorted to low politics on this matter, terming this massive success as 'theatre'.

However, in an explosive interview to Republic TV, Former DRDO chief VK Saraswat revealed that in 2012 and 2013, the UPA  government blocked 'Mission Shakti' even though the DRDO was ready with the necessary steps.

"We were capable to have launched this long back", Former DRDO chief said.

"Hum log stimulation kar chuke the. Hum logon ne dekha tha ke humare jo Ballistic missile defense program mai capability develop hue thi aur agni program mai jo capability develop hue thi unka hum jo saman kare toh tho yeh hojayega. Parantu iss disha mai hume kuch aur technology development ke karya karne the. Hume uske liye resources chahiye the aur permission chahiye thi. Uss samay iss tarah ke koi permission hume nahi mili. Toh issliye 2012-13-14 mai iss tarah ke karyakaram nahi hue. Par Prime MInister Modi ke natritrav mai aur National Security Advisor Ajit Doval ke natritva mai hume iss tarah ke clearances aur resources mile issiliye DRDO ne set ka integration, realisation and demonstration".

(We had already complete the stimulation process. We wanted to combine the capabilities of our Ballistic missile system and the developed capabilities of AGNI program to get results in the same direction. However, we still had to develop certain technology for which we wanted resources and permission. But no such permission was granted to us during 2012-13 and even 2014. But under the leadership of PM Modi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, we were able to get all the required permission. The DRDO set the integration, realisation and demonstration.)

When Republic TV asked him about the reason why the UPA government did not grant the required permission, he said:

"Reason toh hume nahi pata. Humne kaye baar iss bare mai baat ke. Parantu koi positive response nahi mila tha."

(We do not know the reason but we approached them a number of times, however, no positive response was given regarding the proposal.)

Hailing the success of 'Mission Shakti, Former DRDO chief said:

"Humara paas nuclear capability hai, humare paas underwater capability hai. Ek deterrence humare paas bacha tha ke hum satalite ko engage kar sakte hai ya nahi. Toh yeh ek bohot bade capability humare andaar paida ho gaye hai aur issliye Modi ji ne kaha ke yeh ek historic movement hai. Humare PM har nagrk ko represent karte hai. Yeh humare nagrikon ka collective wisdom hai jo Pm Modi ke decission making ke karn ubhar kar aaya hai".

(We have nuclear capability and underwater capability. The only deterrence that was left was space capability. Now we have achieved this target as well. As Modi Ji rightly said that this is a historic movement for us. I would want to congratulate my fellow scientists who made this possible and every citizen of this country.)
