MASSIVE: Kolkata police chief destroyed evidence, says interim CBI chief Nageshwar Rao confirming Republic Bharat's newsbreak amid high drama in Kolkata

Minutes after top sources in the CBI stated to Republic TV that the under-spotlight Kolkata Commissioner of Police Rajeev Kumar had destroyed evidence in connection with a chit-fund case, Interim CBI Director M Nageshwar Rao has confirmed the newsbreak while speaking to news agency ANI.

Minutes after top sources in the CBI stated to Republic TV that the under-spotlight Kolkata Commissioner of Police Rajeev Kumar had destroyed evidence in connection with a chit-fund case, Interim CBI Director M Nageshwar Rao has confirmed the newsbreak while speaking to news agency ANI.

M Nageshwar Rao told ANI that the Kolkata police had taken charge of all evidences and sezied the documents. Furthermore, the interim CBI Director also revealed that the Kolkata police had not been cooperating with the insitution and a lot of evidences was destroyed. 

"They have taken charge of all the evidence, seized all the documents. They have not been cooperating with us in handing over all the documents and a lot of evidence has been destroyed or caused to disappear," said interim CBI Director M Nageshwar Rao in the matter.

He also said that the CBI is investing the chit fund cases under the directions of the Supreme Court, adding that an SIT was constituted by the West Bengal government under the chairmanship of Rajeev Kumar, who is currently the Kolkata police commissioner. 

"There is evidence against him (Rajeev Kumar), he has been instrumental in causing destruction of this evidence and obstructing justice," M Nageshwar Rao added while speaking to ANI.

Meanwhile, in a massive face-off between West Bengal government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sat on a 'Save the Constitution dharna in Kolkata. 

This happened after a team of CBI officials arrived at the residence of Kolkata CP Rajeev Kumar, in connection with the probe into a Ponzi scam case. However, the CBI officers were confronted by the Kolkata Police over wheteher they held a warrant for their purposes. Amid the furore between the Kolkata police and CBI wherein the investigative agency was trying to find the Rajeev Kumar, the Kolkata CP emerged from his residence. 

Rajeev Kumar was then seen sitting on the dharna along with Mamata Banerjee. Addressing the reporters in the matter, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of harassing the Kolkata police and termed it as a 'political vendetta'.
