Meet Sarabjeet Singh Aka 'Vella Bobby': Hero Who Works 24/7 For The Sake Of Humanity

As India marks its 72nd Independence Day, Republic TV celebrated the unsung heroes of the nation who have dedicated their lives to ensure that the spirit of true India burns on. In line with its special broadcast 'Heroes of India', Republic TV spoke to Sarabjeet Singh, a businessman turned philanthropist who provides free food to cancer patients and dreams that no one should sleep hungry.

Speaking to Republic TV, Sarabjeet Singh revealed that the force which motivates him to serve the society is the 'pain that people are going through due to lack of money or any other reason'.

"I suggest that all the resources that we put for religious langars should be diverted to help the people who are suffering due to health issues and cannot afford the treatment", he said.

"When we started the Langar, I had no idea it would turn into such a big project. Before we'd just gave Chai, but now we offer food throughout the day, & others have also opened such Langars", he added.

"To help people should be the purpose of our lives and if we fail to do so then our life will come to a standstill. I have always emphasized the fact that we should direct all the resources that go waste to otherwise to all the hospitals where they can be used well", he added.   

 

A MAN WHO WORKS 24/7: 

Sarabjeet Singh is fondly known as ‘Vela Bobby’ in Shimla. The word 'Vella' roughly translates to 'idle' in the Punjabi language, however, conflicting his pet name Sarabjeet Singh has dedicated his life to the underprivileged. He is always ready to volunteer his time, day or night to serve his society.

A BLEND OF PASSION AND COMPASSION:

In a perfect blend of passion and compassion, Sarabjeet selflessly takes the responsibility to solace to the living and the dead. He has been organizing blood donation camps for over 11 years now. Apart from this, he also runs a free 24/7 funeral van service to transport the dead to the crematorium. The idea to run the van came when government-run hospitals lacked such services. 

He runs a first of its kind free canteen which offers tea, biscuits and evening meals of dal and chawal to patients and attendants visiting the Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla. He is an extraordinary man whose selfless journey has been an inspiration to many all across India.
