'Second informal meet'

This is the second informal meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping after the Wuhan summit last year. The two nations are working towards developing greater relations amidst rapidly changing regional and global political scenarios. Although active trade partners, the two countries have been having standoffs on various issues such as the boundary line in the Doklam region in Sikkim, as well as India's long-standing issue with neighbours from the north-west, Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir. The differences have been wider post the revocation of Article 370 in early August. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan visited China a few days ago, raising its issue with what his government believes is unacceptable. The Chinese government has said it 'was paying close attention to the current situation in Jammu & Kashmir'. However, they clarified that they will not be intervening for now and that the two countries should resolve the issue through dialogue, whilst 'following the UN Charter and other relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements'.
